Strzelecka Cooperative of Milk Producers was established on 24 September 2005. The company is based in Strzelce Krajeńskie, Lubuskie Voivodship. The cooperative is one of the largest procurement entities in Poland.
ContactIn north-western Poland, after the liberalization of the economy, state farms were closed down. The amount of milk produced by individual farms did not meet the production needs of the numerous dairy facilities operating in this area. Following the consolidation of the dairy industry, most of the processing plants were closed down. Milk producers were paid low prices for raw milk and did not receive payments on time. In Strzelce Krajeńskie, as in many county towns, there was a district dairy cooperative that processed milk. After its incorporation into the new structure, a large part of the cooperative members were dissatisfied. They came up with the idea of creating a cooperative that would only deal with milk procurement.
On the initiative of the future president, Andrzej Jarmasz, a meeting was held on 24 September 2005 with 35 milk producers who had decided to form the cooperative. Large volumes of milk and its high quality would constitute the negotiating power. At the founding meeting, the producers approved the Bylaws and appointed the Supervisory Board, with Witold Kowkiel as the chairman and Marek Ścigaj as the deputy. The Management Board of the cooperative included Andrzej Jarmasz, who was appointed President, and milk producers: Andrzej Kruszyna from Lubuskie Voivodship and Aleksander Tadych from Wielkopolskie Voivodship. In 2018, members of the cooperative appointed a new Supervisory Board, with Anna Obiała as the chairperson. We started procuring milk from Lubuskie and Wielkopolskie Voivodships, with our first route in the vicinity of Strzelce and Czarnków.
The cooperative's three-member Management Board has remained unchanged to this day.
ContactCurrently, there are 540 members of the cooperative. All suppliers are members of the cooperative. Our daily purchase amounts to 570 thousand liters of milk, i.e. 50 full 23-tonne routes. This is an enormous leap made over the past 17 years. If it had not been for our cooperative, milk would be collected from our suppliers by numerous processing entities, which would offer farmers worse terms than those offered by Strzelecka Cooperative. We constantly ensure that the amount of milk purchased does not decrease. President Andrzej Jarmasz personally visits and talks to farmers interested in becoming involved with the cooperative. Thanks to our achievements, farmers recommend the cooperative to one another, giving us the best publicity.
The average daily production from a milk producer is 1000 liters. In this respect, we are in the top three in Poland. We have suppliers producing 30000 liters of milk per day. They own barns that are fully automated. We also work with medium-sized suppliers - individual farmers who produce 600 liters of milk per day, and smaller farms, which we equally respect.
We mainly gather producers from Lubuskie, Zachodniopomorskie, Wielkopolskie, Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie and Dolnośląskie Voivodships. Thus, we operate from Gdańsk to Świnoujście, through Gorzów to Rawicz, Krotoszyn as well as Piła or Inowrocław, covering about a quarter of the area of Poland. All our suppliers produce milk without the use of GMO feed, and to confirm this fact, our cooperative has obtained the VLOG system certification recognized throughout the European Union.
A modern office building in which we hold conferences, training sessions and also statutory meetings was completed in 2020.
The main objective of the cooperative is to ensure that all members can sell the milk they produce at good market prices, to maintain milk production and to develop dairy farms in areas where processing facilities no longer exist. We cooperate with dairy companies with a strong market position in Poland and the EU.
In 2017, the cooperative obtained a European certificate confirming the production of milk with the use of non-GMO feed. The certificate gives Polish dairy producers a better chance of success on the European milk market. The document is issued by the German Association Food without Genetic Engineering, i.e. an organization which for many years has been setting standards for the control of non-GMO products in the food production chain. The certificate has become a standard in many European countries, including Germany, the Netherlands and France. Obtaining the certification was not easy. We had to go through a series of procedures that involved both the company and the milk producers themselves. However, before this happened, we organized a series of training sessions where we demonstrated what GMO-free production should really look like.
The cooperative is formed by milk producers. We are all members of the cooperative. We work with all milk suppliers on a cooperative basis, irrespective of the supply volume. The cooperative's operations are based on the provisions of the applicable Polish law, the Cooperative Bylaws and Resolutions of the Cooperative Bodies. The principles of milk procurement by the cooperative are the same for all members: Milk Supply Contract and Price List.
Any milk producer who breeds dairy cattle and has a sanitary-veterinary certificate issued by the District Veterinary Officer may become a milk supplier to our cooperative.
